In our latest RPC Money Talks webinar, hosted by Katie Mast, Director of Community at Rock Paper Coin, we explored the realities of working with your spouse.
Our expert panel featured Kirsten and Maria Palladino (Founders of Equally Wed & Equally Wed Pro), Ian Ramirez and Paul Pettie (Owners of Madera Estates & Venue Help Desk), Leidy and Josh Fourniers (Luxury Destination Wedding Photographers), Ashlea and Tyler Snell (Photography & Videography Team), and Megan and Garrett Pitts (Founders of Megapixels Media)—all couples who have built successful businesses together.
Through candid conversations, they shared what it takes to balance a thriving business and a healthy relationship, offering insight into both the challenges and rewards of working as a team.
Key takeaways from the webinar:
- Work-life balance is essential. Maintaining clear boundaries between work and personal life can be difficult, but it’s necessary for both business success and a strong relationship. The panelists shared strategies for setting aside time for themselves, delegating tasks based on their strengths, and recognizing when to step away from work to prioritize their relationship.
- Every couple works differently, and learning to adapt is key. Some partners thrive on structure, while others prefer a more flexible approach. Understanding and respecting each other’s work styles helps create a balanced workflow, allowing both individuals to contribute in ways that play to their strengths. Many of the panelists admitted that this is an ongoing learning process, but one that ultimately strengthens their business and partnership.
- Respect and communication matter more than anything. The foundation of any successful business and marriage is trust, open communication, and a shared vision. The panelists emphasized the importance of discussing expectations, navigating disagreements with respect, and always making space for honest conversations. When both partners are aligned, challenges become easier to navigate, and wins feel even more rewarding.
